Today
Today
there is today
not more
each passing second grasped
at the atom's edge and gone
each inhale
a newborn star
each exhale
a purling supernova
dancers reeling and laughing
under Death's shy glance
there is today
the journey of a raindrop
unbound from lofted storm
returned again to
dress the sable earth
in memory and dream
culmination of eternal transience
from sea to sky
field to flesh,
lightning hurdling synapses
thought paths made fulgurite-solid
humming hot on the shore
the gulls cry a strange dirge
tide and surf lap and crash
I hope that my next step
will be graceful
